Writes..."Alfred Lord Tennyson Was Full Of Shit"

"i'm not writing a full complete thought about this, i just felt i had to say something. alfred lord tennyson wrote, "it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." sorry, a.l.t. but i think that's the biggest load of crap i've ever heard and i hate using hyperbole. i have loved and i have lost and honestly, i'd have rather loved nothing ever than felt the way i felt then."

i just found what i based this on.

"they say it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. we'll if you've ever loved and lost anybody you know how asinine that statement is. but i'll do that one better. there is something even worse. have you ever loved somebody that didn't have any feelings for you? somebody who would have been indifferent to you being nonexistent. unrequited love is worse than losing a love, you never had it in the first place. it's worse than never loving anybody at all because you feel things you wouldn't experience any other way. loving somebody is the greatest feeling life has to offer us. giving someone your heart is the ultimate gift."

sometime in '05 or '06, i wasn't dating stuff in this comp. book.

then i discovered something worse than unrequited love - forbidden love.

  1. Hey B, can you go into a little more detail about this. I understand that having eperienced both but what do you mean by "I'd have rather loved nothing". Need a little more... help me complete my own personal thoughts.

  2. i guess i mean if it's either one or the other, you either keep loving and losing or never experience love and what comes with it, i choose not loving at all. i don't know if the happiness or the pain or whatever emotions you feel when you love somebody is better than not feeling anything for anyone, ever. i don't know. what i know is that a.l.t. didn't write about option three. how about loved and kept? i'll quote homer simpson on this. on the episode where moe got his heart broken by that woman named maya he said, "sometime, when you least expect it, you'll realize that someone loved you. and that means that someone can love you again!". i think the only thing that sustains us in this is that we all believe that eventually, if we keep at it, despite crashing and burning sometimes, we'll love and have that love reciprocated back at us. that we'll be able to maintain that love and have it last a lifetime. so i think what a.l.t. said only rings true if you believe in what homer simpson said. then it is better to have loved and lost because you know the hurt is only temporary, that another opportunity for love will come along and that next time could be the time you got it right.

  3. @Kiecha... I thought that I was the only one. The thoughts came pouring in but came to a screetching halt and ended with "wtf".

B-R-I-A-N...very well elaborated! But to quote Homer Simpson was priceless but in this case very true. But honestly I dont feel that you can "not love at all". Love is a emotion of the heart not the mind so its really not your choice. I know that you are going to argue the point of mind over matter but hey! Also there is the point that you can love but not be in love and whose to say that when either one of those are gone that it ends in deep distress. You can take all the right precautions to sway your heart but the truth of the matter is that it wants what it wants. But when you continue to accept the fact that you can be loved how many of those instances can the heart take before it becomes redundant and you begin to lose hope. I think that everyone should hope to have loved at least once just to see what it feels/felt like. No one would want to go thru life wondering "what if." So I think that a.l.t was on the right track but unfortunately Homer wasnt around to shed light on his situation...lol.
